City Proclamation-
WHEREAS, Peg Leg Pete was carved in 1978 by master carver Wayne Ervin during the 1978 Shrimp Festival; and
WHEREAS, Peg Leg Pete has kept watch over downtown Fernandina for 29 years from his post at the Riverfront Welcome Station and later, at the corner of Front and Centre Streets outside the Depot Building; and
WHEREAS, the Fernandina Pirates Club was founded in 1973 and are active in promoting our community through the Eight Flags Shrimp Festival, local charity events, and they sponsor and annual scholarship contest for Nassau County High School Seniors; and
WHEREAS, when Peg Leg Pete started showing signs of aging, the Fernandina Pirates Club coordinated the restoration and unveiling of the Pirate; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the City Commission of the City of Fernandina Beach and citizens are grateful for all of your collective efforts in restoring the City's beloved Pirate Peg Leg Pete, which has been a landmark in our downtown for over thirty (30) years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Proclamation is a permanent matter of record in the proceedings of the City Commission as testimonial of our sincerest thanks to:
